CBCP Program Highlights
The Comprehensive Breast Care Program (CBCP) of the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center was formed in October 2001 with the intention of providing coordinated breast cancer care. The guiding principles of the CBCP are quality, innovation, teamwork, service, and accountability.
An integral portion of the program is the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center (BPBCC) and the two have been partnered together since the program’s installation. The BPBCC is crucial to the program’s ability to provide state-of-the-art diagnostic and screening procedures. In 2005, the BPBCC purchased a breast MRI. This cutting edge technology provides clear imaging of the breast that mammograms and ultrasounds cannot match.
In October 2007, Jo and Ben Statler donated a $5 million endowment. This endowment led to the creation of a research program and professorship for the CBCP. In April 2009, Dr. Mike Ruppert was installed as the Jo and Ben Statler Eminent Scholar and Chair in Breast Cancer Research. Likewise, in October 2009, Dr. Jame Abraham was installed as the Bonnie Wells Wilson Distinguished Professor and Eminent Scholar in Breast Cancer Research.
Also in 2007, the CBCP became a full member in the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP) clinical trials program. This allowed the CBCP to offer NSABP clinical trials. In 2010, the Program became a NSABP Foundation Phase II Research Program which gave access to restricted foundation trials.
The CBCP gained accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). This prestigious award is only given to sites that provide high-quality, coordinated care. The BPBCC also received commendation with its Breast Imaging Center of Excellence award. This esteemed award is only presented to sites accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) in stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound, ultrasound-guided breast biopsy, and mammography.
