As the executive director of development, Laura McCall leads the fundraising efforts for the WVU Cancer Institute. She brings more than 20 years of experience aligning the interests of donors with the needs and priorities of the organization. She is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the development office including annual fund, major/planned giving, events, donor stewardship, and campaign management. She works in collaboration with West Virginia University, the WVU Foundation, and WVU Medicine to develop strategies to link philanthropy to research, education, and outreach.
With the WVU Cancer Institute’s growth throughout the state and region, McCall’s extensive background and strategic leadership style aligns with the priority of building a robust fundraising program, diversifying the donor base, and maximizing the philanthropic resources.
Prior to joining the WVU Cancer Institute, McCall spent three years as the senior director of development at the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute where she built the infrastructure in preparation for a capital campaign. Her experience includes leading a global healthcare nonprofit and 16 years at WVU in different leadership roles, including assistant dean for development at the WVU John Chambers College of Business and Economics. As a front-line fundraiser, she traveled across the country representing the University, as well as WVU Health Sciences and WVU Athletics. Under her leadership, more than $75 million has been secured in private fundraising support at WVU.
A native West Virginian, McCall earned a bachelor’s degree in speech communications from Fairmont State University and a master’s degree in communication studies from West Virginia University.
