MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s was named the best hospital in West Virginia for the sixth consecutive year in the 2026-27 U.S. News & World Report Best Children’s Hospitals rankings.
It was also listed as one of the best in the Mid-Atlantic region with two specialty programs, Pediatric Urology and Pediatric Behavioral Health, also earning national rankings.
“These rankings reflect the excellent care and dedication our team shows the children and expectant mothers we serve,” Michael A. Grace, Ed.D., M.B.A., F.A.C.H.E., president and CEO of WVU Hospitals and senior vice president and chief operating officer of WVU Health System.
“WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s remains committed to expanding our quality care across the region, so all families in need have world-class care close to home.”
Children’s tied for 13th in the Mid-Atlantic region, up two spots from last year’s rankings.
For the ninth consecutive year, the Children’s Pediatric Urology program received a national ranking – this year at 44th in the nation.

Children’s continues to offer the latest surgical techniques and innovative care to help children with conditions that can affect their lives into adulthood.
“Our team remains committed to providing the highest quality of patient care,” Steven Campbell, M.D., chair of the WVU Medicine Department of Urology, said. “This is an outstanding achievement and a reflection of the hard work of a team that is proud to help improve health for the children of West Virginia and the surrounding region.”
The Children’s Neuroscience Center Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry also earned a Top 50 national ranking for the second year in a row.
Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry is a program within the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute. The team focuses on treating the entire child, including mental and physical health, with both inpatient and outpatient services.
"This honor is a proud moment for our team and for pediatric mental health care in West Virginia,” Stephen Deci, M.D., chief of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, said. “It reflects the progress we have made, the expertise of our providers, and our commitment to helping young people and their families access the specialized support they need to grow, heal, and thrive.”

Children’s hospitals awarded a “Best” designation excelled at factors such as clinical outcomes, compliance with established best practices, and level and quality of hospital resources directly related to patient care.
