WVU Heart and Vascular Institute to lead community effort at 2026 Greater Morgantown Heart Walk

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The WVU Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI) is proud to support the 2026 Greater Morgantown Heart Walk as a host site for the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk Torch Journey.

The one-mile Heart Walk is a family-friendly event that brings the community together to promote physical activity, raise funds, and support lifesaving research and education. This year’s festivities kick off at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, at the Mylan Park Aquatic and Track Complex in Morgantown.

Every step taken and every dollar raised helps the American Heart Association fund critical research, expand CPR training, and equip more people to respond in cardiac emergencies. The initiative aims to ensure that at least one person in every household is prepared to perform CPR, helping turn bystanders into lifesavers.

To recognize HVI’s distinction as a Heart Walk Torch Journey host site, Institute clinicians and administrators gathered for a group photo with the Heart Walk Torch, representing their dedication to advancing cardiovascular care and improving the health of communities across West Virginia.

“The Heart Walk is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together, get active, and support lifesaving research,” said Alison Bailey, MD, WVU HVI vice-chair of cardiology and chief of noninvasive cardiology. “Being a Torch Journey host site allows our team to carry the flame of hope and awareness throughout Morgantown, inspiring others to take steps toward better heart health while empowering people with the knowledge to save lives.”

Walkers of all ages are invited to join this celebration of heart health. By participating, individuals and families not only take steps toward their own wellness but also support lifesaving research, honor survivors, and stand in solidarity with everyone affected by heart disease. Together, we can strengthen our community and carry forward a shared commitment to healthier hearts for all.
