Bob Baronner Apple Trample 5K Raises $50,000 for Local Cancer Patients and Community Outreach Efforts

Runners come out to support WVU Hospitals East Foundation's Cancer Comfort Fund

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The 2026 WVU Medicine Bob Baronner Apple Trample 5K brought together runners, walkers, sponsors and community supporters, raising $50,000 to benefit the WVU Hospitals East Foundation Cancer Comfort Fund and the Mountain State Apple Harvest Festival Community Outreach Program.

Held as part of the annual Mountain State Apple Harvest Festival celebration, the event attracted more than 300 participants who united in support of local cancer patients and families while honoring the legacy of the late Bob Baronner, a respected community leader and former President and CEO of Bank of Charles Town, now Potomac Bank.

This year's top race participants:

  • Overall Male Top Finisher: Aidan Kuriger with a time of 17:11
  • Overall Female Top Finisher: Amie Rivas with a time of 21:45

"We are incredibly grateful to everyone who participated, volunteered, sponsored, and donated to make this year's Apple Trample such a tremendous success," said Jeannie Constable, vice president of marketing and philanthropy for WVU Hospitals East. "Seeing our community come together is truly inspiring. These funds make a meaningful difference for our local patients, supporting costs for medication, transportation, meals, and other needs. Every dollar raised helps remove barriers to care and ensure that patients can focus on healing rather than worrying about covering necessities."

Funds raised through the event will help provide critical assistance to local individuals undergoing cancer treatment. Through the Cancer Comfort Fund, patients receive support for needs that extend beyond medical care, including nutritional supplements, medications, transportation assistance, lodging during treatment, and other essential services that help ease the financial and emotional burden of a cancer diagnosis.

The need for the Cancer Comfort Fund continues to increase as WVU Medicine grows cancer services to meet the region's healthcare needs. So far in 2026, the fund has supported more than 65 local patients. This year, WVU Medicine expanded access to care through the addition of pediatric cancer infusion services in Martinsburg, and plans are underway to begin cancer infusion services at Jefferson Medical Center in early 2027 in a newly renovated space. These investments will allow more patients to receive treatment closer to home.
